Sometimes signs are sent to you and you ignore them. Sometimes they become progrssively clearer and you then need to fight to ignore them. And sometimes Vishnu himself comes down from the clouds and hits you with the sledgehammer of "sit down shut up and fucking pay attention", and when that happens, you don't really have a choice now do you.

Changes need to be made. I cannot document them all here as they come, and as I haven't been journaling much lately to beign with, I think now is proper time to properly retire this livejournal. At some point I am sure I will take up another blog-type service, either here or elsewhere, and when I do I will be sure to link it. For now, farewell.

September 11th, 2000

hey, this is my first update, i'm at work now. i work for the university newspaper, the Arizona Daily Wildcat. I come it at 10 at night and sit around and wait for the design/layot folks to finish. when they do, i take the printed articles, paste them onto blanks with the ads already in place, and take them over to the printers. its a cool job, the hours suck, but the pay is good, and i have free reign of the production office, which has 5 macs (ew), all on a T1 line (yay). Tereza's at work now, she works at a kwik-e-mart full time, and i also work there part time, weekends mostly. after work, i'm gonna go home, drink some Bass and watch Fawlty Towers, a hilarious British comedy made in the late 70's that we have on tape. i probably won't go to sleep, i have class at 8 am that i always miss when i try to sleep. i prefer to sleep during the afternoon when it is to friggin' hot out to do much else. i don't know how often i can update this, probably just once a day, about this time. i'm also gonna try to find a suitable picture of me to put up here. that's about it, later folks!

Wow... scary to think I have had this thing eight and a half years now. Katy gave me an invite so I decided to check it out. Funny how so much has changed since then, but how some things have stayed the same (posting from work FTW)

Overall I liked it - and would recommend both to fans of the graphic novel, and non-fans. Its a good, entertaining movie. The differences from the source are glaring if you are familiar with the original, but they fit into the overall story decently enough. Billy Cruddup was perfect for Dr. Manhattan. Most of the cast was pretty good, though the makeup effects for the original Silk Spectre looked like crap on Imax. They did, however, do a good job, i thought, on turning the dead boyfriend from Gray's Anatomy into The Comedian.

The music choices were a bit much. Most were far too cliched, starting with the opening credits right thru the travel to Antarctica. But HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT LEONARD COHEN AT THE EXACT RIGHT MOMENT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FORCED DOWN OUR THROATS IT WAS FREAKING PERFECT!!!!!

I am sure I'll have more later, but for now though, sleep.

Today went much better than anticipated... I actually left work after only 10 hours and it the gym... I hate being a resolutionary, but the fact is, the past three months I have not been as faithful to my fitness routine as I should've been... too much going on at work, working long hours to cover my team members' time off, too tired to make it to MMA class, WoW... gah. Gained 10 lbs since September, granted I am nowhere near where I used to be, but its still progress I need to make just to get back to where I was.

I am going to make it a point to post in the morning, either a summary of my dreams or whatever random song I wake up with stuck in my head. not sure why. could be that after 8 and a half years, I might as well start using my journal to actually, you now, journal stuff.

At someone's mention, I figured I should post an actual post for the new year. My holiday season has been quite bland, no travel or major loot be gained... L and I did get Wild jerseys and mine arrived just in time for Christmas, apparently Antti Miettenen isn't popular enough I had to special-order his. My employees chipped in and sent me a care package of beer, spicy mustard, pint glasses, and Mana Potions. I love my team.

I picked up another rattie a few weeks ago, Izzy. Was dropping off a donation of cat food at the humane shelter and they actually had 5 rats... two bothers, two sisters from another litter, and Izzy who was by herself. Chubby girl, white with brown face and back stripe, so I brought her home, got her a new cage, etc. She actually scared me a bit, she packed on alot of chubby within the last couple weeks, was afraid one of the boys at the shelter knocked her up, but a quick vet visit revealed no babies, just needs to cut back on the treats and get some more exercise. So she got an exercise wheen in her house, and all is well. She and Indie don't get along, as I am Indie's man, but they're getting better.

Work's been a stressful couple of weeks, and January is the busiest month of the year but I think we're going to be relatively okay. I've been working from hom a day or two a week, saves on gas and sanity, even though I end up working much longer hours those days. The firewall tends to behave differently when I work from home too, can usually bring up Pandora which doesn't work in the office. I suppose I could just bring up the gaming laptop with me, but there's something about dual-boxing between work and play laptops that would be dangerous (can you say Wintergrasp on a conference call?)

Rumour is that Leonard Cohen will be touring the US and western Canada this spring / summer. No tourdates yet but that is a show I will need to catch at least one of. Korpiklaani is also going to be touring the US, one date so far in May in Chicago, but hopefully there will be more, and closer. Not that Chicago si far away, but MSP is full of good Scandanavian folk, I am sure they'd play here someplace.

WoW has been fun, I am thoroughly enjoying WotLK. I am a full-on Wintergrasp addict, and my 2v2 Arena team is batting .500 for the season... my rogue partner got a Deadly Gladiator drop from Vault so we'll see if that helps any. I've been asked to join a couple different raiding guilds but for now I'll stick with my current slacker PvP guild... we're getting enough semi-active players to run 5-mans, especially if I get my death knight leveled quick to tank... running him Unholy pet spec'ed, its like the Warlock I always wanted that can smash face (my first ever WoW toon 3 years ago was a Warlock, I liked the idea of having an evil demonic minion to do my bidding, but not fully understanding the game and mechanics, I always wondered why i got my ass handed to me when i charged in for melee as well). Pugged a few 10 and 25-man Naxx runs which were fun as hell.

Its funny how even though my job hasn't changed and it doesn't seem like my bills have changed, it feels like I have less money to spend than I did 4 months ago. Could just be my being more active on paying down cc bills after my trips to ABQ and Texas, I dunno. Its not that I am in bad shape, but L and I will actually make decisions on where we'll go out to eat or what take-out to get based on bank accounts and not mood (not like we can ever decide what to get anyways, but that's another story). The whole bailout thing has me thoroughly pissed off, i am wondering if the whole point of it is to make our dollar worthless compared to world currencies, so we'll all be forced to buy American cars, as the cheapest Toyota will soon cost $40k.

I've never seen a queue on Lightninghoof of 300+. I think I'll give up and go to sleep if I'm not in by the time I finish this post.

In Dallas currently, my cousin is getting married and its a bit of a family reunion. Had margaritas with my folks at the little Mexican restaurant across the parking lot from our hotel... bartender must've been wanting to get rid of a bottle of tequila or something cuz we got freaking hammered on not very many drinks.

Stayed out last night, got my copy of Wrath from the Gamestop... 10am flight this morning, I wasn't planning on doing the midnight release thing but it was either that or get it Tuesday when I am back in the Twin Cities.

Read Rant on the flight here... more of a mindfuck than his other books but still a good read. On the other end of the spectrum i have An Imaginary Tale: The Square Root of -1 to read on the flight back.

I have also discovered Korpiklaani, Finnish folk-metal. This is the music I've been looking for for awhile. Check 'em out.
